My (tiny) blog soon to be powered by Wordpress
Filed under PHP / MySQL by Brett Reid at 23:38pm May 18th, 2007Enter Phase 3. Up to now, the Seed Article Module has been faithfully powering my blog. I’ve decided it’s time to move to Wordpress. Mainly because this module wasn’t built for blogging and time is a valuable commodity in my life at the moment.
Why Wordpress? Because it rocks quite frankly. I got to know Wordpress very well last year when I implemented a stripped down version on the (yet to go live when their team finds the time to populate it) King Kramer site. Problem was they wanted to update 3 parts of the site (essentially 3 blogs) and I wanted to keep them going through ONE admin console (Wordpress doesn’t support multiple blogs). With the insane deadline/panic, I dived headfirst into the source and eventually hacked Wordpress to a point I would term ‘fragile’. It worked but any poor programmer attempting maintennance would not be a happy camper. Then the client changed the deadline. More time -> Calmness -> Google Time -> Enter the Wordpress Multiply plugin.
This plugin did what my hack did, only it was a ‘legitimate wordpress plugin’. So now that site has been classfied ‘maintennance friendly’ and we have 3 seperate blogs Blog, Tips, News all running through the standard admin panel yet completely seperate in terms of categories/comments/rss/trackbacks.
I am hoping all that stuff I did will make this transition that little bit smoother. For King Kramer I developed my own Theme so we could strap Georges slick design onto Wordpress, I am in the process of bribing my girlfriend Jackie to create a ’slick design’ for my Wordpress version. Soon people will be able to send comments…yay
