The Wordpress conversion…
Filed under General, PHP / MySQL by Brett Reid at 00:08am May 26th, 2007The conversion went a bit pear shaped and ended up in me changing hosting companies.
The issue came when I tried to set Wordpress up on my existing host, Mediatemple.
Firstly I uploaded my local, installed version of WP and then loaded the SQL file via SSH. Tested and got some strange SQL errors. Secondly I tried installing it online and received the following error:
“ERROR: WordPress 2.2 requires MySQL 4.0.0 or higher”
That’s just downright disturbing that Mediatemple even offer accounts with less than MySQL 4 as standard and, you guessed it, they want to CHARGE me to upgrade my account to MySQL 4.0! They also want to charge $74 for a spam filter and charge me to ‘upgrade’ to their php5 server.
On that note, I cancelled with them. 4 months short of the end of my 2 year contract but I am not paying them extra just so I can run Wordpress. The usability in their control panel is really bad, it’s from the stone age. Come on guys, you’ve redone your website 3 times in the 2 years but never upgraded the usability on your control panel to include ajax? That really sucks.
