I am a 29 year old web developer based in Cape Town, South Africa.
I grew up with pc’s, my father was a punch card developer. I only got interested in programming much later though (2000). I’ve been writing code for 7 years now. A quick summary would go HTML > Javascript > VB6/SQL7 -> ASP/Access -> XHTML/CSS -> PHP/MySQL. I spend the majority of my time writing PHP/MySQL now but I still have a keen interest in web standards and beauty of css design. If you want to know more about my skillset you can request my CV.
I see myself as a PHP/MySQL specialist. I enjoy working in PHP as it’s a language which moves with the technologies around it. It’s not a 100% OO language but with PHP 5 it’s pretty close and PHP 6 is just around the corner. For web, PHP makes a lot of sense - it’s very quick and widely supported - which I guess is why I’ve stuck with it. I would like to become Zend Certified early next year. I am also interested in getting to know Java.
On the personal side, I have cool parents and one older sister. My girlfriend, Jackie Ellse, is a very talented web designer. We have 2 Labradors and 2 cats. In between work I like watching movies, rugby, listening to house music, reading books, braaing and watching Conan o Brien.
